The next RED School will be March 14-20, 2027
Here’s the team of teachers in charge of this year’s courses, with whom you’ll have the opportunity to interact
Mickaël Baqué is an astrobiologist working at the interface between microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, and planetary sciences. His work focuses on the study of biosignatures and the resilience of extremophile organisms in planetary environments, in relation to the questions of habitability and search for life. His research combines field studies in extreme terrestrial environments, experimental simulations in the laboratory, and the preparation, execution and analysis of ESA space experiments (BIOMEX, BioSigN). A central focus of his work is the assessment of the detectability of traces of life following exposure to Martian and space conditions, using non-destructive spectroscopic techniques, in particular Raman and VIS–NIR. After a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata (defended in 2015), Mickael joined the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin. Since 2021, Mickaël has been co-principal investigator (co-PI) of the BioSigN space experiment and responsible of the associated analytical platforms at the DLR Berlin until December 2025. In 2026, he joined the DLR Space Agency funded project TRIPLE at FH Aachen, still based in Berlin at the Technical University, and at the Institute of Space Research of DLR, looking at new mission concepts for icy moons exploration.
