Planet formation simulations, hydrodynamics and N-body simulation, planet-disc interactions, chemical composition of forming planets
Dr. Bitsch finished his PhD in 2011 working on 3D radiation hydrodynamical simulations of planet-disc interactions and continued as a post-doc at the Nice Observatory in France, working on simulations of protoplanetary disc structures. When he moved to Lund, Sweden in 2014, he consequently combined his previous knowledge with planet formation simulations to figure out how planets form. This was also the research topic of his ERC research group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany, where he and his team studied how planets can form in different disc environment through hydrodynamical and N-body simulations. At UCC Dr. Bitsch will continue to work on planet formation simulations.
